What is Fish Blooms?
Fish Blooms is an ocean-based fertilizer made in Port Angeles WA that recycles local marine ingredients to provide natural nutrients to local farms and gardens. Derived from locally caught fish whose carcasses may have otherwise been wasted, we process the fish to create this fertilizer.
Fish Blooms has a N-P-K (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) ratio of a nutrient content of 3-3-1.
We recomend a 1 OZ to 1 Gallon of water dilution rate.
About The Founder:
As a marine biologist and lifelong ocean lover, Genoa's relationship with fish extends far beyond her professional work. During fishing season, she would often ask friends for their leftover fish carcasses, valuing parts of the fish that are often discarded. She used these remnants to make rich broths and salvage overlooked meat. When the abundance of fish carcasses began exceeding her personal needs, she founded Fish Blooms. The organization's mission is to honor the full potential of each catch, expanding the gift these fish offer to both people and land. Though she now spends countless hours processing carcasses—and often carries the telltale scent of her work—Genoa sees each fish as an opportunity to strengthen the connection between ocean and community.
Rooted in the Northern Olympic Peninsula, Genoa draws inspiration from both its vibrant community and rich ecosystems. When not processing fish, she finds joy in foraging from forest and sea, catching waves, and exploring the outdoors with friends and her dog. Genoa recently completed a PhD in Fisheries with the University of Alaska and has spent the last four years living in both Juneau, Alaska and Port Angeles, Washington.
