At the end of their migration, Salmon return to spawn in the same rivers where they were born. During this process, they carry ocean nutrients inland to forests and streams. After spawning, their bodies nourish the soil, streams, trees, berries, and bears. However, as Salmon populations decline across most of their range, this nutrient cycle is weakening.
At Fish Blooms we collect Salmon carcasses and bones from fishermen to return some of those nutrients back to soils and aid production in local food systems. Through a careful fermentation process that combines fish with kelp and compost, we create a garden-ready soil amendment rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, and calcium—allowing the salmon's journey to continue nurturing local ecosystems, just as they have done for millennia.
